COVID-19, What are your choices?
COVID-19 could probably develop to be one of the worst crisis in-terms of economical impact since the great depression. A lot of governments around the world imposed measures (social distancing, school closure, banned international travel, curfews, etc.) which expected to be in-place for the next six months at least if not more. Some people even say, it might take up to 18 months for things to go back to normal. As a result, a lot of people lost their jobs, others living in fear and anxiety, some fear that they would loose their jobs, others fear contracting the virus. Some fear that their supply of food or toilet-paper is going to run out. Some are high on dope and they probably not aware of what is going on, or they are filling-in for a different version of themselves in another dimension.
Everyone is different and everyone reacts differently to stressful situations like this one. Throughout this article, I will outline a few things you can do that could help you to go out of this crisis stronger than you were.
By now, I think you have made or about to make a choice about what to do next. That choice of yours could be one of the two below:
- Choice 1: is to adapt. A choice you would probably make if you think that the current situation is not going away any time soon and it's better to adapt.
- Choice 2: is to wait. A choice you would probably make if you think that the current situation would go away soon and life would go back to normal and it is just a waiting game to find a cure. You probably waking up every morning searching online whether a cure has been discovered or not.
If you have made the first choice above or thinking about it, keep reading as this article is for you. Throughout this article, I will outline a few things you can do to adapt to the current situation.
With first choice above, you should focus on 2 main goals:
- Staying positive
- Avoid getting sick.
To achieve the above two goals, I would go through a few things that could help you.
Your morning routine
If you are working from home, do not change your usual routine and get out of bed straight to your work desk while grapping a coffe on your way. Wake up, do your usual routine. Probably starting early by doing exercises at home, have a shower, dress comfortably and probably nicely as if you are going to work. Then start working and take your usual breaks and lunch break.
Calisthenics Exercises
Calisthenics are exercises that don’t rely on anything but a person’s own body weight. These exercises are performed with differing levels of intensity. These exercises allow for the development of strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. The exercises can be done at home and can get you to a level where you can make or maintain the gains you desire. Try to focus on, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, blanks and squats.
Video Conference
As humans, we are used to interact face-to-face and the easiest way to have a good productive conversation with someone else is to be face-to-face. Unfortunately with the current situation, you can't do face-to-face but you can make it close by using a software with high video capabilities. You need to have the right setup to get lightening in-check. You need a dark background with light above your computer screen pointed at your face.
Your immune system
There is no doubt that, other than washing your hand, staying at home and wearing masks and gloves when you go out, strengthen your immune system is one of the most important thing you can do for yourself to stay healthy.
How to strengthen your immune system can be summarized in the below key things:
- Exercise regularly
- Cut down on alcohol
- Get enough sleep
- Eat enough nutrition
- Adjust your eating window (Intermittent Fasting)
On of the main benefits of intermittent fasting is getting your body to switch over from glucose metabolism to ketone metabolism. Ketone metabolism brings a lot of health benefits.
Lower your expectations
The easiest way to get through a crisis or a stressful situation while staying happy, is for you to lower your expectations. Be ready to loose some money, or an asset, someone you love, or a trip you have planned a while ago. Managing your expectations while you are going through this is a key for you to survive and may be get out of it stronger than ever.
Conclusions and takeaways
Everything begins with a choice and if you choose to adapt, you could have a good chance not only to survive but also to get out of this stronger than ever. You could also think how can you help your community in the current situation. You could come up with an idea to help bridge the gap in medical supplies or a new software to help people connect better remotely or secure interactions online. Even a small thing like buying a coffee if you ever been outside, could help your community.
