I have been scrolling down my Facebook wall last night and all I see more and more hatred comments from Singaporean over Government newly aid initiative to Malaysian who is working and commute from Johor to Singapore. Some of the comments were: Singapore wasting money over foreigners; As a Taxpayer we shouldn't allow money goes to foreigner, government spent so much on foreign talents and the list goes on and on.
Come on Fellow Singaporean! I think our government have done their very best at this crucial moment. Not whining or even bragging about how good our government are, but action like this should be admired, applauded and appreciated. We are neighbors and I don't see anything wrong to lend a help especially for all those Malaysian drivers who worked in Singapore, travel across from Johor just to serve the citizen for their daily commute.
I bet not many Singaporean who wants to be a bus driver. I bet not many Singaporean want to work as a security e.g Cisco and etc, I bet not many Singaporean want to work as Cashier or Factories. I bet not many Singaporean keen much to be a Nurse as well. So... don't talk like as if you walk the same route as them.
I am appalled with those who criticize the action of our government in helping our neighbor. Remember, we are just a tiny dot. They are much bigger than us. What if one day we needed help from them? We are in the middle of two giants! Re: Indonesia & Malaysia.
If we see a country lacking in process, and as a very advance country like Singapore which have the best of everything, shouldn't we lend our help to those who are in need especially during this pandemic phase, while they sorted out their process on this?
Let me add: have you guys read the full report from Ministry of Health? On those imported cases? In case you did not or just can't be bothered, the imported case mostly from European and western country and probably i misread but only case 248 linked to Malaysian Citizen who is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and had been in Malaysia from 12 March to 13 March the rest were mostly Europeans, Indonesian and Filipinos. Link as follow: go.gov.sg/moh17mar
Shouldn't you Singaporean penalized on them too? ??

5 年Well said Nura. I think the society in Singapore needs your type of role model to stifle off ultra-nationalism that is creating a barrier with our neighbouring countries. Your education have serve you well, and am proud that you have the foresight to see through this as needing times for Singapore to extend its assistance to neighbouring countries.? Regardless the size of a state, nation, or country, one should be mindful and ready to extend assistance to the other when required and within one's capability. Isolating oneself in an emergency crisis will not bode well with others.
Perhaps they don't understand how much SG economy rely on labor force from Malaysia especially on services and SMEs. Any food supply disruption also could cause massive panic in SG. This is not just about helping foreigner, its about saving own SG economy as well and the value chain around South East Asia neighborhood, https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-health-coronavirus-singapore-cenbank-idUKKBN2150SH?taid=5e71e33e72e8fa00012c071c&utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter

5 年Well said Nura and I totally agree with what you said. Those Singaporeans criticising our government’s for helping Malaysians working should be send to the mental hospital. They’re crazy and talk crazy and best place for them is the Institute of Mental Health.
