Covid 19 - Is Positive,The New Negative? Now a day's - HR Life [Few Tips]

COVID-19 pandemic has hit all corporations worldwide however, the repercussions vary depending on their context and digital footprint. The HR department remains at the forefront & heart of all employee-centric organisation needs including well-being of its employees.

Being an HR Professional, last few weeks have been tough! Self & family getting infected with Covid and its associated challenges in March. By God's grace and blessings of people around us, we all recovered. However, onset of second wave in India and Covid + cases stratospheric spike have left us in a state of shock, dismay and despair.

It is excruciatingly painful to process

Seeing so much of pain, suffering all around offices, neighbourhood, amongst relative's, city and across the country chokes me now a days, tears bubble up but somehow able to hold on to them but can't help with heart ache. It is unnerving and unsettling.

These days, when I hear phone ring in odd hours, I almost get shuddered and my heart skips a beat - anticipating another catastrophic news!

In the midst of all this is the day to day office life of HR.

Majority of us in HR / Admin employees in the corporate world are now focussed on supporting employees in their hour of distress, in the best possible manner they / their organisation can support, are supporting. However, It has become increasingly difficult to motivate folks in HR / Admin as they themselves are suffering in one way or other. Somebody asked me, I have not reported so many fatalities throughout my career - How do I process this. Answers are not easy to such nerve wrecking questions. They tend to make you numb.

I was thinking about it and a question was throbbing again and again in my head - how do we cope with this sense of emotional distress, despair amidst fear of upcoming catastrophic news - while every one will have their unique ways of processing and getting out of this, I trust following pointers may help :

1]We are not robots and no need to pretend to be one. I never thought, that I will ever do the job that I am doing now. It leaves me completely exhausted and I never thought that I am the one who will ever be stressed, but now I am - what should I do? Such / other related questions are common place now. At the outset, it is imperative for us in HR / Administration Jobs to Accept that we are also suffering and need help. There is nothing wrong in raising Hand and asking for Help.

2]Talk to Friends - just talk - You will feel better. I was talking to a young architect and she said that now I am make sure that I call my friends and talk to them. I feel better and get strength to process the happening around me. I have heard this from so many people. This certainly helps. Try it out.

3]Avoid falling into Guilt Trap - Somebody in HR asked me, I felt so vulnerable that I could not provide the requisite support to our staff despite best of my intention. Am not able to sleep well now a day's. Do the best you can including giving an emotional outlet to people and rest it there. No point, keep brooding over it over and over again. It is not in your hand.

4]Be compassionate to your own self - When you fly on an airplane, the flight attendant instructs you to “put your oxygen mask on first,” before helping others. If you don’t look after yourself, you can experience burnout, anxiety, frustration, stress and fatigue. It is imperative that we must replenish our energy in order to continue to take care of others.

5]Be Physically active - Physical activities can keep you fit and help improve your mood. Ensure that you take time out for it.

Praying to God to alleviate the suffering of all fellow countrymen and people suffering from the Covid impact all across the world.

Let's all join hands in prayers to win the battle against Covid.
