IS COVID-19 a NATURAL DISASTER?

Who would have thought we would still be talking about this virus 6 months down the road, but it's more present than ever and though the disaster we see before us is not always black and white, it is important to understand that this is NOT a natural disaster (as we know it).

Yes, the coronavirus is 'naturally borne' from an animal, but it is not necessarily a 'natural disaster'. Here's why.

Natural disasters happen for a moment to a few days. Once it is done, no matter how devastating, it is done, we can see the results and we know what to do. Rebuild, rebuild, rebuild.

The only way COVID-19 could be considered a disaster is because of the confusion over the future.

But COVID-19 isn't a disaster because:

- it is not easy to see (unless you are a front-liner).

- it hasn't necessarily 'happened' to you right now, but the fall out is happen-ing to you everyday.

- it hasn't ended, and doesn't seem to be ending. And simply because of this, we don't know what to do to get over it. Rebuild? Maybe, but rebuild into what? What will survive this long term...no one really knows.

All we can hope to do is contain it...over time.

I guess we will still have to wait, work on something new and see if we/it survives....that's the only option we have.

And I guess that is exactly what survival is. It's something as ancient as the beginning of humanity, and is the only thing that will confirm we will all continue or not. No matter how sophisticated we have become, we are still vulnerable organisms.

COVID-19 isn't a natural disaster, it a natural survival mechanism. All questions in the future will be based around 'how did you survive it', not 'how were you destroyed by it'. How you view these two questions will determine how well you will actually survive.

Who would have thought it would have been as simple as that.
