COVID-19 Monday 30th March 2020

So now begins the week after ‘the week’. When isolation turns from being the novelty to the norm. More and more contractors and developers are closing sites, which does make the government advice very curious…also for those who vow to keep going, how will they, in reality, continue with public pressure against it, but even ignoring that for a second, the basics like suppliers/ builder’s merchants etc… closed surely makes it impossible to continue.

As an employer, I’m still trying to work out whether the Oxford English Dictionary’s word of the year for 2020 will be ‘coronavirus’, ‘covid-19’ or ‘furlough’ which has definitely been the word of last week!

One thing I am sure of, it won’t be ‘recruitment’. However, my job now is to make sure we are here in 2021, when recruitment will most certainly be a word back in the spotlight...projects to finish, new projects to build, an economy to be rebuilt, and in all of that people who possibly now are biting their tongues but may not feel appropriately ‘looked after’ during this period.

But even during these times, we still have people to look after and, yes, even the odd role to fill. And for that, we are very grateful.
