COVID 19 inducing the much needed change in the way we teach and teachers skill need.

Unlocking technology to deliver education has brought the flexibility in accessing education. This means we need to redefine the role of educator/teacher in the classroom. We also need to redefine the skills required for teaching. COVID 19 has brought, into light, the challenges faced by many teachers who were not trained. This new shift in teaching and learning will bring changes in teaching methods, strategies, learning environment, strategies to meet the needs of all students. It will demand teachers' knowledge of new pedagogy, knowledge of educational technology and how to develop learning material for online learning.

Teaching is no more teaching the content, it is an art and science. Paradigm shift to new way of educating our future generations will change the mindset and thinking of many people who think any body can teach if one has the content knowledge. This shift has forced many examination bodies to either cancel exams or change the way they assess students. Therefore, now, teachers need to learn a new way of creating assessments and also learn the new to assess and grade, to fit in this changed way of teaching and learning. Training of teachers will be the utmost important factor and will help teachers tremendously to take this shift to a new way of teaching and learning.

Prior to COVID 19, research has shown that quality of teacher impacts the learning outcomes and attainment of students. The more qualified and certified the teacher is, the better the outcome and attainment of students are. It has also been proven by the results of standardised testing that quality of teachers matters. Most of the countries who are fairing well in TIMSS & PISA, have an advanced academic and professional qualification requirements for teachers. Professional Education/Certification of teachers becomes imperative to the quality of education

If we want to achieve high quality of teaching and learning in schools, we need to have academically qualified and professionally trained and certified teachers in schools, who not only know the content but also know how to teach and facilitate learning of the diverse population of students in diverse environments and through different modes.

Completely agree! COVID has brought into the limelight the importance of qualified & trained teachers who not only know the content but also have pedagogical and technological skills to teach. Post COVID, technology will become a greater part of the education system all around the world. Khudos to teachers who responded well to the emergency situation caused by COVID to keep the continuity of education but COVID brought out the challenges faced by teachers in terms of pedagogical & technological skills.

Great point. What is the use of a river of knowledge if none of your students can access it with your delivery and approach. Thank you for sharing,

Teachers role is more of a facilitator now and flexibility to adapt to new methods of imparting knowledge is the key to their success?
