COVID-19 and Impact to HR/Time/Payroll and HR Technology - What's Coming for US Employers

Unfortunately don't have time to write something more detailed but here is something I sent my customers this morning that I thought I would share so US HR/Time/Payroll customers can start preparing.

"Just thought I would share that the recent legislation that passed in the US House of Representatives on March 13 (never made it further)

Update on March 17 there is a new version of this bill which will go to the Senate

Update on March 24 there is still no bill signed and looks like this might be handled directly from the US government but there are still items for payroll departments. Quite a lot has changed in a week.

The foundation of this bill is emergency paid sick leave and emergency paid leave which my guess will be “expected” to be handled by HR, Workforce Management (Time system) and payroll departments and their corresponding IT systems/solutions.

My guess the changes will have to be quickly understood if this impacts your organization (depending on how laws written) but if so a solution will have to be designed, technical changes made in all the appropriate systems, detailed testing and rollout in what will be a very short window given the impact"

I am available to help in any way possible.

Best Regards,

Jarret"

Regardless if you are a #SAP, #SuccessFactors, #Workday, #Oracle, #ADP #Kronos, #Workforce Software, #Ultimate, #Infor #Ceridian #PeopleSoft #DayForce there is a strong likelihood of some changes coming which will have to be quickly solutioned in this time of need.

If time permits I plan to use the comments to share solutions for various SAP combinations (i.e SAP Payroll and Kronos customer, SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll and Workforce Software customer) and in the spirit of everyone coming together would ask that fellow customers, consultants across all vendors do the same.

Very important and please share as being proactive is extremely important as employees are going to be dependent on employers getting this right in their time of need!

March 17 Update: Given the unprecedented nature of this pandemic the government responses are evolving and changing very rapidly and ultimately the US government might opt to do something directly to individuals and not through payroll departments so will try to keep you posted as I become aware. Stay safe everyone!

Revisiting processes and methods of adding leave types and processing through cost and valuation might pay off as the decisions made filter down to your enterprise. Many organizations may not have flexed those mental muscles in a while!

Ohio updated their unemployment process to allow people who are inquiring quarantine to immediately draw benefits - a good move. No impact to HR/Payroll systems that I can think of. https://jfs.ohio.gov/ouio/CoronavirusAndUI.stm
