COVID-19: a Divine Agent of Economic Liberation?

The official narrative of the COVID-19 pandemic is that we are "at war" and that affected nations must go all out to mobilize resources and fight against this micro-organism that is one billionth the size of a human.

This is the story peddled by mainstream media, and the fear mongering certainly doesn't harm their ratings.

Biologically, it's the right narrative: we must STAY AT HOME in order to prevent the further spread of this virus.

Economically, however, the story is different: we are not "in this together" but must go through this economic ordeal alone.

As Brian Tracy, one of my favorite personal development authors, wrote, "If it's to be, it's up to me."

In other words, ask yourself what you can do differently given the economic shutdown.

It's almost as if the COVID-19 was an agent of economic liberation: it FORCES people to look for alternative ways to make money.

Sure, it may seem unfair that civil servants in Canada can be sent home due to health concerns and continue to receive a full paycheck while employees in the private sector are being let go without pay.

But what can you do?

The Canadian government can provide temporary financial relief, but it CAN'T change your assumptions and beliefs regarding work.

You may have previously assumed or believed that your job was safe or that the employer would take care of you.

Now is the time to realize you're on your own.

If you provide value, you eat. If not, you starve (and so will your kids, unfortunately).

I know this is not what people want to hear, and I get it.

We want to be comforted, we want "good news", we want to use this shutdown opportunity to catch up on Netflix movies, we want to blame the government, etc.

We want to do everything except CHANGE.

Change is hard, but so is success.

And I don't mean "success" as in "having a job."

Because a job, no matter how good it is, is not yours!

It can always be taken away, as many are discovering during these times.

Success in one's economic and financial life means "cashflow control."

If you work more (online or offline), will you make more money?

If the answer is Yes, then you've got cashflow control.

It's like driving a car: press the gas pedal and you move forward.

Employees don't have cashflow control, they're like backseat passengers.

The driver (the CEO) can stop the car anytime and say, "Please get out. Ask the government for help."

The CEO is not necessarily a bad person, he just has to take care of himself and his family first. You and your family are not his priorities.

Heck, even shareholders might come before you on his list of priorities.

But again, this is good news... IF you interpret the situation correctly.

You'll come out winning IF you use this opportunity (while you're stuck at home) to learn about digital marketing and sell stuff online.

Remember that according to Don Crowther, a social media guru, there are 1,600 social media out there and that's only those in English.

My point is, sure, maybe you lost your job but in fact, you lost only ONE client (the employer).

Now, you can use the Internet to get thousands and thousands of clients. The income is LIMITLESS.

Realistically, 95% of recently laid off employees will just sit at home and continue to blame, complain and wait for a government bailout.

Only 5% will see the COVID-19 as a unique opportunity to change their mindset and take charge of their economic destiny.

After the crisis is over in July 2020, they will come out as the BIG winners.
