Covid 19 daily tip # 3 - Masks

Covid 19 daily tip # 3 - Masks

We all know that using masks can reduce the transmission of disease by reducing the amount of airborne transmission of the virus. You probably did not know that it happens through small particles and can spread ten to fifteen feet!

Six feet is only the distance cited by scientists that protects against respiratory droplets, which are the most common source of COVID-19 spread.

Airborne transmission is also tricky because the virus lingers.  Covid 19 is made of small particles that can stay in the air up to several hours.

Covid 19 behaves similar to smoke in the air.  Just walking past someone does leave you with a brief smell, however if you are sitting in a room with someone smoking, you will quickly be sitting in a cloud.  The same is true for Covid 19.

Good ventilation is a key in avoiding airborne transmission.  Outdoor spaces reduce the risk of viral spread.

In the upcoming months infection rate will increase, and your chances of being in contact with someone with Covid 19 will also go up. Realize who your circles are. Realize where your circles overlap with others and if possible, where their circles overlap with other people's.

Lastly, remember... your hands also carry the virus. Most likely do more than once throughout the day. Keep hand sanitizer in your pocket or close by and use it before taking off your mask. Also realize as your mask slips down, you are potentially bring the virus right where you are trying to prevent it from reaching. Remember to keep the hands clean throughout the day as much as possible.

Stay safe my friends!
