Covid-19 and Career Perspective

Corona epidemic or rather called the Covid-19 pandemic, has sent orderly and methodical messages across the globe, specially to safeguard life, with social distancing, as the only option for the time being and making personal hygiene a regular routine. Though, the world is hell bent, on creating a vaccine, or an antibiotic, to get cure for this untimely life threatening disease, emotions, fear, uncertainty loom large on every individual, irrespective of status, class, caste, religion, color or for that reason, being a human being on this planet earth.

The Corona impact, and its statistical data, in each country, will be well defined and analyzed by their respective government, but, nevertheless, I am sure, everyone is concerned with this life threatening virus. Feeling of uncertainty, feeling of insecurity is imminent. However, the world united, is fighting to destroy this invisible death threat, and hopefully, we will be successful in winning this emotional war and walk through this tentative time of distress.

Predictions from management pundits says, due to Covid-19 Pandemic the forced vacation for some, and work from home opportunity for others, there is going to be a change, in the work regimen & organizational restructuring, throughout the employment sector. This change will defy distance & boundaries, both national and international. Restructuring of organizational development and its hierarchy, seems undoubtedly possible, with new work strategies, channeled with technological advancement, playing a pivotal role as an impending approach of the future. Being optimistic, chances are that the techies will play a crucial role by unleashing a series of high tech software and hardware combine, bringing in Digitization and Artificial Intelligence to every domain in the industry. This will in turn create large scale unemployment with machines replacing manpower. Technological development and advancement will play an important role in the future. Work from anywhere or work from remote locations will be the new employment mantra for many companies. From the management perspective, this will help in cutting costs, enormous savings on benchmarked budgets, at the same time, getting work done from where ever you are.

The world economical recession is for everyone to experience. Salary reductions, layoffs are apparent. Every individual has a desire of self prestige. This is the time to showcase empathy & compassion. Salary cuts, loss of jobs, fear of insecurity and an uncertain future glooms large on their lives. Individual entrepreneurs, businessmen, consultants, self employed individuals, also gets impacted. The exodus of migrant workers from different states is a teary example. Corona Virus, Covid-19 pandemic has proved that money cannot buy happiness and sleep. So the best, one can do in these trying times is to help one another and be a Good Samaritan in whatever way possible. For sure, management and the ethical leadership which is the driving force of many organizations will guide it’s employees or workforce, into motivating and assuring a futuristic security for themselves and their families. This will be a primary responsibility on their shoulders.

Just imagine the corporate segments doomed: Airlines, Hotels, Tourism, Film Industry, Theaters, Transport & Logistic companies. A huge big dent indeed!! And the employees working in those domain has to think for themselves.

However, there is always an opportunity in every crisis. Opportunities of hope, opportunities to research, opportunities to innovate and opportunities for a new beginning. 

Like I mentioned earlier, Layoffs and Salary reductions seems imminent. Need of the hour is to be prepared and get ready to face the oncoming challenges in the employment market. Preparation and updation of a resume or bio data is important. Get ready to receive calls from talent acquisition specialists, recruitment consultants and head hunters, who may pitch in with their expertise to connect with the job market and opportunities. Every individual has a resume or a biodata for himself or herself. We put all our past and current experience and prepare a resume. That is true in every case. Nevertheless, to get highlighted while sending the resume for a prospective position, it is imperative for you to understand the job requirement and then accordingly restructure your resume with the expertise and competencies expected for the position applied. This practice should be an exercise for every different position that you wish to apply. It becomes an easy task for the hiring manager of that respective organization to connect with its content and short list the resume with better ease.

I take this opportunity to thank the doctors, nurses, emergency workers, social workers, health care workers, police, para medics and all those good souls who together is trying to do their selfless bit in these times of challenge. Your effortless dedication towards the society is highly appreciated and we acknowledge sincerely form the bottom of our heart that human touch of timely treatment, protection & compassion.

The need of this time is to keep yourself safe, protected and healthy. The Almighty says, “Ask and you will Receive”…on an optimistic note, with intense belief, lets pray goodwill, peace and happiness prevails!!

Very well summarized the current situation. Yes there will definitely be economic crisis and depression. Nevertheless, with this "work from home" situation, one should take this opportunity and time to sharpen the hack-saw by up-skilling/cross-skilling oneselves using the distant education/learning platform. This will help oneself to sustain professionally in the recovery phase after the pandemic. We can expect many Cost Containtment processes to follow and Economy correction will happen over a period of time... But we should not lose hope and believe in ourselves. Every dip has a rise. We should be optimistic and look forward to accept the change and put our best efforts...

Has anyone even given a thought to the return of these migrants when things settle down. Am sure many states will still put barriers to restrict their entry and reduce the migrant population in their respective cities n State. This is what many states had been dreaming of... I sincerely hope this migration brings out opportunities for manufacturers to set up bases across these huge migrant states and provide the migrants with employment opportunities nearer to home. This will help to enhance their living standards, thus freeing some of the populated cities with some much needed breathing air too.

Nicely written James...... The need of the hour will be for flexible leaders who can scale down and scale up as per the requirement of the business......... One thing I believed earlier but now believe more is that the purpose of existence of all our businesses is to fulfill some basic necessities........ What events like these demonstrates is that if these basic necessity driven consumption stops the engine of the economy stops as well........An AI driven system may help reduce employment but it also means that the purchasing power in the economy reduces to that extent for goods that the AI based system have helped make..... Ans soon enough the demand for the AI based system will vanish too.......... I hope this pandemic teaches us to develop an economic model of sustained and responsible demand....... We essentially need to move into a You Exist I Exist Economic Model from the current I Win you Loose Model
