Is the cover letter a thing of the past?
Over the past month or two, I've been working to fill a few positions. I've noticed something interesting: LinkedIn's EasyApply feature makes it tempting for candidates to skip the cover letter altogether and just send in their profile and CV. What's more, many candidates don't bother tweaking their CVs to fit the job they're applying for.
Here's the thing: I believe the cover letter is key. It's where you can really shine by highlighting your skills and experiences that match the job requirements. But if you opt out of a cover letter, shouldn't your CV at least speak directly to the job description, showcasing how you're the perfect fit?
Is it just me, or am I expecting too much? What's your take on this?

1 年Very important to continue to provide a covering letter. CVs should be targeted at the role, but they're just a snapshot of your skills and experience. A covering letter can be specific to the skills of the role and provide more detail.

1 年Agree totally. It’s a lazy, reckless attempt at an application. It shows the candidate hasn’t applied their mind to that specific role and s hoping to “get lucky” by a shotgun approach. If you’re looking for a candidate who displays detail orientation and synthesised thinking they will tailor make the cover letter and their CV. Also keep in mind many of the employers are “old school” so meet them where they feel safe!
