The Cover Letter Conundrum

Yesterday, one of my clients mentioned in our feedback call; that the hiring manager complimented her on her cover letter. The interviewer said the cover letter boosted her job application. If a cover letter is requested and part of the job application, it can be your first opportunity to be noticed by a potential employer.

Nonetheless, there is genuine ambivalence regarding whether cover letters add any value. they are concerning whether cover letters add any value. Many hiring managers will tell you that a job-specific cover letter is one of the surest ways to?illustrate why you are the right person. Job seekers say the tedious cover letter is not worth the effort. Cover letter writing is annoying, time-consuming, and irrelevant, but the extra effort can pay off.

If unsure you should think-shrug and include a cover letter, as it is likely an essential part of the candidate vetting process if requested. Upload a cover letter tailored to the job description and explain how you meet the company's candidate specifications.

?Your cover letter should always be informative, relevant to the job description, and even a bit idiosyncratic. Since the cover letter may be the first and only document the recruiter or the hiring manager reads, let a bit of you shine through when writing your cover letter.

?A general cover letter with minor language adjustments to accommodate individual jobs will be adequate for most job applications. If a cover letter is not requested, or you are short on creativity or cash, invest in a professional resume and forgo the cover letter.

?Here are a few pointers to help you achieve a near-perfect cover letter:

1)?????Length: Try to keep your cover letter to one page, with one or two intro lines, a dense body of two or three short paragraphs, and a short closing line.

2)?????Communication: The dexterous use of language is paramount in a cover letter; you must show your ability to communicate ideas clearly and succinctly while not sounding like a bore. Remember to keep the tone of your writing slightly conversational, especially when emailing.

3)?????Validation: Insert a full-bodied paragraph highlighting your suitability for the role. Mention your key competencies, skills, and experience in this crucial paragraph.

4)?????Details: If you plan to add achievements, use bullets; use the most unadorned bullet style. Two to three bullets, depending on space, that highlight your key attributes will do.

5)?????Closing: Reiterate your genuine interest in the job. Include a recent highlight about the company that enhanced your interest in joining the company.
