Cover just turned 10, here's a note I shared with our team.

Today we’re celebrating Cover’s ten years.

Ten years ago, we started with an ambitious idea: to make high-quality homes faster, better, and for everyone. Most thought we’d never get off the ground.

At the time, we were two architecture students with no experience in manufacturing, and plenty of people told us architects were dreamers, not builders. People warned us that many had tried to build homes in a factory before and failed. That first summer, my dad said I should get a real job. Yet we saw an opportunity most didn’t. To use software to manage the complexity of custom floorplans, and build the homes as panels in our factory, then rapidly assemble those panels on-site. Here we are, ten years in, proving that homes will be built in a factory. While we’re still just getting started, we’ve achieved what nobody else has: ??????

-??????? We showed that you can build custom floorplans while remaining efficient. Nearly every home we’ve delivered has had a unique floorplan tailored to that client and property.

-??????? We’ve proven that high quality and speed aren’t mutually exclusive. We improved our install speed from 120 days, to just 3 weeks, and we’re not done.

-??????? We proved that you can work with regulators and move fast. We got our most recent building permit in Los Angeles in under a month.

-??????? We’ve delivered dozens of homes to happy clients who love living in their Covers. ?

And we’ve built a great team, dedicated to our mission. A third of our team has been working with us for over 4 years. Along the way, we’ve stayed laser-focused. Saying no is as much a part of our success as what we choose to take on, and I’m proud of that. Over the last decade, we’ve had competitors start, raise millions (and billions) and fail – often due to a lack of focus. We’ve also made our fair share of mistakes. Reflecting on this decade, I’m proud of what we’ve learned. Bold experimentation is necessary to push boundaries. And if every experiment is a success, we’re not moving fast enough or setting the bar high enough. We’re applying those learnings every day to continue to push boundaries and build homes that are not only beautiful and fast, but also built more efficiently than conventional construction.

The next 10 years won’t be easy – just as the last 10 weren’t. Our ambition remains equally grand. We see a world with better homes for everyone. We’re doing this because it’s important, not because it’s easy. Today, I’m more optimistic than ever.

We’re finally expanding beyond Los Angeles and preparing to scale further. We’ve now got a factory that can build a hundred Covers a year. Let’s ramp to do that, and then some. Soon we’ll be expanding beyond ADUs to multi-story full-size homes. In the next 10 years, we plan to build tens of thousands of homes, if not more. Our product will keep evolving, our manufacturing will advance, and we’ll continue to build more efficiently. We’re just getting started. Each Cover home brings us closer to a world where high-quality design is available to everyone, everywhere.

To each one of you: thank you for every late night, every sacrifice you’ve made, every boundary pushed, and every ounce of belief you’ve poured into Cover. Thank you for seeing what others couldn’t and for showing up day after day to make it real. The next decade belongs to us. Let’s build the future of home together. Let’s make dreams real.

Here’s to the next 10 years. Here’s to making history.
