"Cover" the Basics
Ethan Evers
A photographer and videographer dedicated to cinematic quality and impeccable quantity.
Over this past week, I've constructed a few different cover letters while I begin to search for new opportunities to follow up my incredible internship.
Cover letters are a powerful way to give you a boost into what could be your next job! They're an impactful way to make you a standout candidate before you even land an interview.
Taking even the smallest amount of time to write a note to a hiring manager could make an extreme difference in an interviewing process. Forrest Clements says that he "took 5, maybe 10 minutes" writing a cover letter to a hiring manager and had an interview scheduled within the next 48 hours. I thought Forrest's story was super encouraging.
Even among nearly one thousand applicants, he was able to show his passion and interest by putting in a few minutes of extra effort into his application.
I was able to watch a video between Daniel Zewde and Emily S. Kinsky, Ph.D. over this past week as well. I gathered a lot from this particular interview, especially when Daniel mentioned that cover letters should discuss something that isn't included in your resume.
I found this to be an interesting point, because it wasn't something I had totally considered when writing my cover letters. Using this sort of diversity throughout an interview process could allow the hiring manager to familiarize themselves with who you are, so it should certainly be taken advantage of when possible.
I hope you gained many tips and tricks to "cover" your next job interview!
