Course Creation Tip #1: Don't lead with the timeframe!

I have a course creation tip for you;

Don't lead with the timeframe!

More often than not I hear people say "I want to create a X week course" or "I'm going to launch a X month programme"

And in doing that they're already making their first mistake.

When you wrote your book, did you say "I'm going to write a 12-chapter book"

Or when a movie director creates a blockbuster do they say "I'm going to make a 75 scene film"

Or a playwriter defining their work by the number of total minutes of the show.

As far as I'm aware, they are led by the message they are communicating and the outcome they are delivering.

How would it work if a chef said "I'm going to make a 706 calorie meal"

Unless the goal is to keep the calories down and around a certain number for the “under 500 calorie” section, then they are governed by the taste they want to create.

The outcome they want to deliver.

You see my point?

You may have an idea of how long your course will be and that's fine, but map out HOW your course taker will achieve the outcome you want to deliver and THEN add in how long it will take.

If you don't, then you run the risk of overwhelming by cramming in too much info, underwhelming by stretching out the content or overpromising with unrealistic promises.

So map it all out, then determine the length of time and format.
