Courageous Conversations For The Advanced Leader: Beyond DEI to Human Equity.

Courageous Conversations For The Advanced Leader: Beyond DEI to Human Equity.

Recently, KDPM Equity Institute concluded a two-year journey with an organization, supporting and coaching senior leaders and people-leaders on increasing Inclusion and Psychological Safety leadership competencies, through a cultural equity lens by exploring the Advanced Leader Empathy Map.

The Courageous Conversation Guide for The Advanced Leader takes into consideration the responsibility of leadership, empowering leaders to go beyond the inherited narratives of leadership, inciting critical thinking by asking:

"Are we fully supported as leaders for the now and evolving the future of work? Can we, as leaders, be empathetic while remaining neutral? How can I bridge my Human Equity knowledge, leadership and coaching skills gap?”

?One of our focus areas was unpacking how leadership today requires more than just authority—it demands empathy on a Human Equity scale. Inclusion is owed, not earned, and many C-suite leadership cultures expect leaders to do more with little or no support.

We discussed the brain’s role in “building an empathy mindset,”, why it's difficult {not our brain's default human response} for leaders to extend empathy to those who are different from them, and through group experiential learning, focused on integrating empathy leadership competencies based on real scenarios currently being faced by today's leader.

Our brain-based and emotional intelligence approach focuses on helping leaders build emotional trust, transparency, commitment, and a growth {always learning} mindset in fostering cultural equity and inclusive cultures.?

By first understanding the responsibility of leadership in today’s climate, leaders can better understand what they need to feel supported to create environments where every team member feels valued and included by prioritizing psychological safety and advancing human equity goals.?

It's time to shift our mindset from DEI to Human Equity, as noted by pioneer and creator of the term Human Equity, Peter Trevor Wilson {get his book - The Human Equity Advantage}.

?The Empathy Map will be coming soon to the KDPM Equity Institute as a micro-learning experience. Now I would also like to extend the courageous conversation prompt to our Equity culture creators here on LinkedIn:

To all leaders - what's on your wish list as a leader? What would you like more support on? What would you like your leadership legacy to be? What will be different because you showed up differently?

Would love to bring this to my neck of the woods to support senior leaders to increase the equity leadership capacities and support their leadership teams to continue the work. Be in your inbox momentarily.
