Courage: Your Major Gift Superpower
Andrew Olsen
Leadership effectiveness drives fundraising growth. I'll help you improve both.
Have you ever wondered why a donor gives $500k to another charity and not yours when they’ve been giving for years and “love what you do”?
It’s usually one of two things, and sometimes both:
1) You didn’t ASK FOR MORE
And they did
You shared a fundraising goal broadly in an email or on social media without actually reaching out to that individual and inviting them to give more.
Do you expect your donors to know that “Join us!” Means “Hey, will you give $500k?”
2) You didn’t CAST A BIG VISION that inspired your donor
And they did
Your vision is so tiny and so small that it doesn’t seem like you need more help. ??
It doesn’t challenge your donor to step up.
Big gifts don’t come without intention, strategy and BIG vision.

We’ve been trained and socialized in the nonprofit space to be small. Keep overhead small. Keep your ambition small. Stay right where we want you. Doing humble, meaningful, tiny work that helps a few. Isn’t that cute.
What attracts mega gifts is BIG vision. Are you audacious or do you keep that a secret?
Your donors ARE giving away major gifts. Those gifts are going to the folks who ask boldly and cast big vision.
Bold vision and asking for more both take guts.
Time to stop playing it safe.
Time get bold and courageous.?

2 年Love this. I recently posted an article on board superpowers related to fundraising and I love thinking about how to help them be bold and courageous - no matter if they are the ones asking or plugging in to fundraising in another way! https://www.solfullfundraising.com/post/do-you-know-the-super-heroes-on-your-team
