The Courage to Step Into New Conversations

Adventure doesn’t always mean scaling mountains or traveling to far-off places. Sometimes, it’s as simple as stepping outside your routine, engaging in a meaningful conversation, or exploring a new perspective. A recent conversation with my son made me realize that my Walk & Talk sessions are, in their own way, little adventures—ones that require courage, curiosity, and an openness to the unknown.

"You're adventurous, Mama!"

my eldest son said as we enjoyed lunch together.

Curious, I asked: "What makes you think that?"

He replied, "You go for your Walk & Talk with people you don't know to places in Singapore you don't usually go to."

That simple observation gave me a fresh perspective. What one person sees as adventurous might feel completely natural to someone else. But as I reflected, I realized that adventure ties beautifully to one of my focus words for 2025: Courage.

I love this quote:

"Courage is the power to let go of the familiar." — Raymond Lindquist

And that’s exactly what my Walk & Talk sessions are about—a break from the familiar. They are little adventures that:

Spark connections Encourage spontaneous conversations Inspire new ideas—all in the beauty of nature.

A Practical Communication Tip: The Power of Open-Ended Questions

One of the simplest ways to spark deeper, more engaging conversations—whether during a Walk & Talk or in everyday life—is to use open-ended questions. These questions encourage the other person to share more, moving beyond yes/no answers.

In celebration of Valentine's Day I made the theme of the Walk & Talk sessions love. Here are three open-ended questions to reflect on for yourself or with a loved one:

  1. What is something in nature that reminds you of the power of love?
  2. Where in nature makes you feel safe & loved and why?
  3. If love were a part of nature (a river, tree, or mountain) what would it be and why?

By inviting reflection and storytelling, you create space for meaningful dialogue and genuine connection.

Why Step Into a Walk & Talk?

In these sessions, we create a space where:

Those who show up are meant to be there. What is shared and explored is exactly what’s needed.

Stepping out of routine and into nature is often where the magic happens—where ideas flow and connections deepen.

Many of us spend our days in structured meetings, at our desks, or navigating the demands of everyday life. A Walk & Talk offers a refreshing alternative: fresh air, meaningful conversations, and the simple joy of movement.
