The Courage to Show Up as You Are
In a world obsessed with perfection, the most daring thing you can do is to show up as you are—unpolished, uncertain, but fully present.
Three weeks after my dad passed away, I was set to lead a 3-day event for 75 people. I was still grieving and feeling incredibly raw. Instead of putting on a brave face, I decided to embrace the moment. I brought my dad’s favorite poetry book with me and read excerpts from it throughout the weekend.
Not only did this allow me to feel connected to him, but it also opened a door for everyone in the room. My grief created a space for others to share their stories of loss and love. The room was filled with connection, vulnerability, and healing. It was by far the most successful event I’ve ever led—not because of a polished presentation, but because we all showed up as humans first.
For coaches, therapists, and consultants, this kind of openness can feel risky. You’re often expected to be the expert, the guide, or the steady hand. But the truth is, trust and connection grow when people see your heart and feel the care you bring to your work.
So, here’s a challenge: What’s one way you can let your guard down this week? Maybe it’s sharing a personal story, reflecting on a meaningful moment, or inviting others into a deeper conversation.
Because the best client relationships and professional connections aren’t just built on what you do—they’re built on how you allow others to truly see you.
Love & Light,
Susan

2 个月"openness can feel risky"...I'd have to agree. When I speak or teach a lesson within my church congregation, I get a little open. It's natural and it's helpful when you're not fearful of sharing thoughts and ideas....and feelings. Being nervous is also normal...as long as that doesn't move to a feeling of fear, all is good.
