Downtown Fort Worth’s newest hotel, The Le Méridien, opened last month. Part of the Marriott Bonvoy family, the hotel includes 188 rooms, a fitness center, a rooftop pool on the 5th floor, a French cuisine-inspired lobby restaurant, Bouvier Brasserie, and a 14th-floor rooftop bar, Annex Fort Worth. First announced in 2020, the hotel is a renovation of the Hilton Annex Building, which had been vacant since the mid-2000s. The annex was built in 1970 above a garage which dates to the 1920s. The building’s interior has been extensively renovated and carries a strong mid-century modern design motif throughout the public areas and rooms. The Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts is the latest in a boom of hotel development in downtown, which has now seen nine new hotels open in the last nine years, totaling 1,700+ new rooms. At the time of writing, no more hotels are currently under construction. Work has gone vertical on a new Diamonds Direct jewelry store at Old University and Merrimac Circle, near WestBend and University Park Village. The 6,700 sq ft, $2 million store was designed by Atlanta-based architecture firm Phillips Partnership. The site was previously occupied by a Wells Fargo Bank branch which was demolished earlier this year. #FortWorth #WestBend #FortWorthRetail

Construction is moving along at Kairoi Residential’s Stockyards development, located east of Packers Street on land that was once part of the Armour and Company packing plant. San Antonio-based developer Kairoi first announced plans for the project in 2022, with initial plans to build eight buildings over 14 acres. The first phase will include 400+ units in several buildings, with a second phase in the design process. The design team on the project consists of Merriman Anderson Architects, Inc., civil engineer Kimley-Horn and construction contractor Weis Builders. The Kairoi project has led to debate about residential uses in the Stockyards. In late 2022, City Council passed a zoning amendment restricting any additional multi-family development in most of the Stockyards area. #FortWorth #Multifamily #Stockyards #Kairoi

The former Kindred Hospital and Cook Children’s N.E.S.T. Center at 8th and Cooper have been demolished by Midwest Wrecking Co. Kindred Healthcare announced the closure of six Texas hospitals, including its Near Southside location, in January 2020. The N.E.S.T. Center facilities have relocated across Cooper into the new Cook’s Dodson Specialty Clinics building. Cook Children's Health Care System, who own the entirety of the block, have not announced any plans for the property, but the site is well-positioned for an expansion of the hospital. #FortWorth #Hospital #NearSouthside

In the River District, construction is wrapping up on The Sadie, four-story, a 323-unit multifamily community on Athenia Dr. Amenities of the development include a resort-style pool, pet spa, fitness center and gaming lounge. The Sadie was developed by Toll Brothers, designed by Hensley Lamkin Rachel Inc and built by KWA Construction. #FortWorth #RiverDistrict

A mid-rise residential project, dubbed “Pearson Grove Tower”, is in being proposed along the Trinity River off Rogers Rd., across the river from the Colonial Country Club. Preliminary renderings show the building at 12 floors, but the developers will seek a waiver to go up to 14 floors from the City’s Urban Design Commission. The amenity-laden building is proposed to include an extensive amenity deck with a rooftop pool, pickleball court and a bocce ball court. Each unit would have an outdoor patio, and the top-level penthouse is shown to be nearly completely surrounded by outdoor terraces. Entry to the property would be through a tree-lined court with sculptures and other art placed throughout.

Fort Worth Housing Solutions will host a groundbreaking ceremony this Wednesday for Babers Manor, an 80-unit affordable housing community on Ramey Ave. between S. Hughes St. and S. Edgewood Terrace. The third of six phases of the Fort Worth Housing Solutions led Stop Six Choice Neighborhood Initiative, following the now-complete Cowan Place and the currently under-construction Hughes House, Babers Manor will consist of townhome and garden-style residences. Babers Manor is named in honor of Mr. Clarence Donald Babers (1946-2020), a Fort Worth native and one of the first African American graduates of the University of Texas at Arlington. Babers had a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, notably serving in leadership roles during Hurricane Katrina and earning the Presidential Rank Award for his service. All of the mass timber beams for the Council Chambers are now in place at the new City of Fort Worth City Hall. The new chamber is anticipated to begin hosting meetings this winter. An additional floor is also being added to the garage, providing more parking space for City employees and visitors. Many City departments have already moved offices into the tower. Steel framing has begun for a new two-story outpatient medical office building at the corner of Pennsylvania Ave and Adams St, near Trimble Tech and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in the Near Southside. The $4 million project, designed by Fort Worth-based Rogue Architects, will include an Envision Imaging facility with CT, MRI, X-Ray, ultrasound and other advanced healthcare scanning capabilities. Additional shell space is for lease through Blue Alpha Capital.
