Ethiopia is a country?located in the?Horn of Africa?region of?East Africa. It shares borders with?Eritrea?to the?north,?Djibouti?to the?northeast,?Somalia?to the?east,?Kenya?to the?south,?South Sudan?to the?west, and?Sudan?to the?northwest.
Ethiopia is one of the oldest countries in Africa. In antiquity, the territory, together with Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somaliland, was part of the?Land of Punt.
According to the Egyptian First Dynasty rulers, Punt (“God’s Land”) was their ancestral homeland.
Imported pottery from Nubia, the Eritrean-Sudanese lowlands, the coast of southern Arabia and Eritrea, and raw materials from the regions of the southern Red Sea, such as obsidian flakes and fragments of ebony, show the broad extension of the Punt trade network in Middle Kingdom times.
King Za Besi Angabo is believed to be the founder of the Ag'azyan dynasty (c. 1370 B.C) and the father of Axumite Queen Makeda, but traditions vary.
In one version, Makeda was his wife. In another, she was his daughter who ascended to the throne after him.
The family's intended choice to rule Axum was Makeda's brother, Prince Nourad, but his early death led to her succession. Queen Makeda is said to have ruled for more than 50 years.
