Counterfeit cough sirop killed: death toll 99 children

It has been said many times. Counterfeiting is not a victimless crime. It can be dangerous, it may even kill people. Recent scandal, CNN reports: counterfeit cough sirop in Indonesia killed nearly 100 children. The industry, the lawmakers, the service providers and the conference organisations around the world can talk to eachother year after year, day after day, how bad the problem is, but at all events there is always one stakeholder missing each and everytime. And that is where the solution to improve should come from: the consumer. Demand creates supply. I think the consumer organisations like BEUC in Brussels, and its equals in other parts of the world should be invited and join the abundantly available conferences, and read the reports from EUIPO and the Observatory on this topic, and bring their input to the table. Time is up.

The consumer is the part of the solution. For a start the consumer awareness could improve dramatically. It probably will save lives.
