The countdown to GAC is almost over!

The countdown to GAC is almost over!

Are you ready for a CUNA GAC unlike any other?

Can you feel it? I know I can! The week before CUNA GAC is always exciting for me, and this year is no exception. I’ve been dropping by attendee orientation sessions this week, and I’ve gotten some great feedback on our virtual conference platform. People are already talking about our headline speakers, virtual exhibit hall, networking opportunities, and much more.

We’re also going to start the conversation around Financial Well-Being for All, an initiative we’re launching to help better define the credit union difference.

Congress is back to its normal course of business, and CUNA and Leagues have been engaging. We hope to see credit union-friendly bills introduced in the coming weeks, but it’ll take advocates like you to get us there.

There’s still time to register for the credit union industry’s premier advocacy event. If you’re unable to tune in live, recordings will be available for a short time after the event to those who register!

All in all, it’s shaping up to be an exciting GAC week, one that will help us set the stage for the future of the credit union movement. I hope to see you there!

P.S. If you haven’t checked out our preconference coverage, which includes interviews with our keynoters, I’d encourage you to do so.

Maryland and DC region credit unions helped provide financial lifelines

According to a survey by the MD|DC Credit Union Association, credit unions in their region provided $1.9 billion in loan relief to more than 119,800 consumers and businesses over the past year. Credit unions have been financial first responders, and these results show the credit union difference in action.

Kansas governor signs credit union bill

The Heartland Credit Union Association saw a major win this week as Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed a credit union-bank compromise bill into law that, among other things, protects the credit union tax status at the state level. The League and Kansas credit unions worked hard for two years to pass this bill, attending hearings, providing hundreds of pages of testimony, sending hundreds of emails, and making hundreds of phone calls. Congratulations!

MAP Campaign focuses on the credit union difference

This week we launched our first Member Activation Program (MAP) Campaign of the year, calling on credit unions to make sure your members understand the credit union difference. Sure, they’re members and they do their banking with us, but do they fully know about what makes us unique in the financial services space? This campaign is designed to highlight the many benefits that come with being a credit union member.

More from 360-degree advocacy

  • We wrote to the House Oversight and Reform Committee to tell them that field-of-membership modernizations would advance financial inclusion more than any postal banking proposal.
  • We called on the NCUA to adopt its SAR proposal as soon as reasonably practical.
  • We told the Senate Banking Committee that actions such as PCA and member business lending flexibility would help credit unions serve more members.
  • We highlighted positive developments from the SBA and said additional PPP funds will likely be needed in a letter sent for the confirmation hearing for Isabella Guzman to serve as the agency’s administrator.
  • We joined more than a dozen organizations to urge Congressional leaders to protect Economic Impact Payments from garnishment.
  • We also joined other organizations to ask the FCC to make several changes needed for clarity to its December TCPA order.

I truly enjoyed my experience at GAC, especially as a young professional. I was honored to meet you there Jim Nussle , just about 4 years ago. Thank you for all you do, and enjoy the conference!
