Countdown to 60th anniversary of the largest on-water boat show

OceanLIVE this week previews one of the largest on-water boat shows in the world, the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show in Florida. It's been a long time since I last attended, though this year I’ve decided to make the journey along with 1,200 other exhibitors from over 52 countries to look at what is trending in the huge US boat market.
As the show is celebrating its 60th edition, I am sure there will be some fabulous events to attend. One function I am particularly anticipating, and also supporting, is the 2019 International Seakeepers Society Founders Dinner where one of the world’s most famous ocean photographers, Amos Nachoum, will be accepting the 2019 SeaKeeper of the Year Award. Amos will be recognised for shining the light and focusing his lens on the most fragile aspects of the ocean through his incredible underwater photography.
The SeaKeepers raise money to support marine science and conservation by utilising privately owned yachts as platforms for oceanographic research. Their efforts eliminate vessel costs and permit scientists to allocate those funds to maximise research potential. And with so many large yachts cruising to some of the most remote areas of the world, what a great way to help monitor our oceans.
Also this week, renowned designer Tomasso Spadolini gives a fascinating insight into the refit project on A2, which was impressively completed in a compressed time-frame of six months. In other news, Riva Yachts has revealed their latest creation, a 48-foot open cruiser which draws on the latest in day-boat design, while Australian custom superyacht builder Echo Yachts has released details of a fully customisable 27-metre catamaran and shadow vessel design. In another instalment of our Power Play series, we talk to the Australian dealer of Westport Yachts, Tomas Gasperak, about what makes these extremely capable superyachts such an attractive proposition.
Read all this news and more, including our review of the Maritimo X50, and an insight into D'Albora Marine's foray into yachting services as the recently appointed Australian dealers of Azimut Yachts below.
See you on the water, or if you are visiting FLIBS, give me shout.
