Count your blessings

No matter what your circumstances, you always have something to be grateful for, however small or insignificant it may seem.

When we focus on what we already have, we expand our gifts. Jalaluddin Rumi, the Sufi mystic, once remarked, ―When we see a clean white cloth with a black dot, what do we see? If we focus on the black dot it begins to look much bigger than it really is.

When we count our blessings, we feel good about ourselves. When we feel good about ourselves, we tend to treat others around us better. When we are good to others, we feel even better about ourselves.

Thus, life-affirming positive energy encircles us, and we transform our lives with kindness and generosity.

While it may be part of our vision to strive for the stars, being grateful for what we already have fills us with positive energy.

At work, when you appreciate the people you have, you begin to notice how much value they add to your organization. If you are constantly finding fault with them, you will actually see things worse than they are. I am not discounting that you may need to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of your organization. However, starting from what is working gets you in the right direction.

When you count your blessings, your blessings multiply. When you count your problems, your problems multiply.
