Count the Chickens, mix the metaphor
Metaphors. Preferably mixed. The more non sensical the better. I am finding them to be exceptionally helpful when contextualising the current ‘situation’. Let’s not call it unprecedented. Let’s instead say that we are all ‘in the same (leaky AF highly unprecedented) boat’.
A rolling stone gathers no job. I am pretty sure that the rolling part of this expression intimates that rolling down a hill after too many Yellowglens in the Nursery on Derby Day is absolutely the way to nail the networking vibes at a corporate event (asking for a friend).
That said, the expression may also pertain to the notion that perpetual motion is what yields..well, momentum. Moving forward is better than eating moss.???? I guess.. Depends on your palette.. Anyhoo, I digress.
The point dear people is that today I realised that job seeking is like weeding. It’s not about what you DON’T get. It’s about what you DO GET. And what you DO GET is what you are supposed to get. You dig? Good, bad or indifferent. For that moment in time, that is the experience that has picked YOU. And to that end, experience matters. No matter how it’s packaged.
Some people graft and learn in the most positive of trajectories. Never a hair out of place. Sucking all the right eggs. Chickens have no requirement for hatching before counting, for these blessed peeps. But - not everybody - as we (#we) know - is like that. For some, experience is earnt in the fire. In the poor fits. In the bad cultures. In the shit interviews and the sucky politics. We are all snowflakes in this game. Unique.
So, weed that garden, throw those small fry back in. Clear that path. Far be it from me to tell you how to pack your own lunchbox (btw that’s an original Alex Jervis c. 2013 you’re welcome). Yet hear this; disassociating from the EMOTIONAL temptations of the job seeking journey is essential, crucial, obligatory.
It’s not about you. It’s about the business. Next, next, next. That is your mantra. If they don’t want you, you don’t want them. Simple. It only takes one person, to connect with your particular, unique, snowflake vibes. ONE. ??
So keep pumping that shit out. Play the long game. Needle in a haystack and all that. For you AND for them. And dang, let’s be real, needles are sharp as a tack. And shiny as shit. Be patient.
