Could Sales Navigator be getting some changes?

We are a LinkedIn service provider (19+ years), and 90% of our clients use Sales Navigator. Several have begun to see a significant change in a popular Sales Navigator Lead Search filter - Seniority Level. It looks “experimental,” but it is worth sharing as it is now available to at least some users.

This Sales Navigator Lead Filter option is not directly based on information contained in a user profile or any settings. It is based on a LinkedIn algorithm written by programmers locked away in a room.?

LinkedIn uses artificial intelligence (AI) elements to assign users to what is essentially a “category” called Seniority Level. It is useful for some searching situations but not others, where job titles and precise Boolean phrases are much more valuable and accurate.

?? The Changes

These are the current options that most Sales Navigator users see (in order of appearance), which have been this way for a long time.

? Owner, Partner, CXO, VP, Director, Manager, Senior, Entry, Training, Unpaid

The new options that some users are seeing are:

? Owner/Partner, CXO, Vice President, Director, Experienced Manager, Entry Level Manager, Strategic, Senior, Entry Level, In Training

This Sales Navigator filter update may or may only be coming to all users, as LinkedIn has a way of experimenting with a small set of users and then rolling things back. In any case, I suspect it will be a while before more users see this, as there are important issues to overcome.

?? A Good News/Bad News Story…

?? More Sales Navigator filters are usually better

?? Algorithms are notoriously inaccurate, especially on LinkedIn

LinkedIn must fix the new option before users can effectively use it. For example, it shows Presidents and Directors under Entry Level Manager. In this example, there are few entry-level people listed, if any. NOTE - by the time you read this, things may have changed a bit.?

Mike O'Neil Sales Navigator Update

One would think (hope) that LinkedIn would do more testing before releasing these features to users, but these “guinea pig” users will help us all get this new feature in a usable way in the future (perhaps).

Do YOU see these new options in YOUR Sales Navigator Lead Filters? Are they any more accurate than this?

Stay tuned!

This seems really useful in what we do here. I'll see about using it. I don't seem to have the new option. Maybe that is better.

I just checked and I don't seem to have it. I wonder how long it will take or if I will ever get this. I really did not even know this was there. Think I might find it handy actually. Many thanks.
