It could happen to you

At age 49, I was diagnosed with dementia. For years, my symptoms were dismissed or attributed to stress or anxiety. When the diagnosis eventually came, it was frightening but it was also a relief. I finally knew what I was fighting. But there is currently no treatment to cure or slow the progression. Studies show that people fear this disease more than any other.

I set out to learn as much as possible about dementia, and quickly discovered that, although there were many organizations working towards a cure, few were really engaging people living with the disease. For many conditions, advocacy efforts are fueled by survivors. But Alzheimer’s has no survivors and those fighting it are often unable to speak out.?Decisions are being made without input from the very people they impact most – those living Alzheimer’s and dementia.

But then, I met George Vradenburg, the co-founder of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s (UsA2). George is a disruptor. The organization he created is tackling issues that others won’t. UsA2 is often the first to take on an issue and encourages others to follow its lead. It brings all of “Us” together to break down barriers; advocate for research that will speed treatments to market; and drive changes that matter most to people living with the disease and their caregivers. I see myself as a disruptor too. I am committed to doing all that I can – for as long as I can – to advocate for people living with dementia to policymakers, industry executives, researchers, clinicians, and even the World Health Organization.?

I have amassed over 20,000 connections on LinkedIn, most of which are very high level leaders with extensive resources – financial and otherwise. Dementia has touched many, including family and friends. Much can be done to further progress in treatment and prevention of this disease. Resources invested now can save a great deal later. Feel free to contact me to uncover steps you can take to assist in this journey. I have always had the ability to think outside the box.

Progress is being made, but we need more committed advocates and more financial resources to fuel the movement to end Alzheimer’s. There are many ways to help. For those that are able, will you take a moment and join George, my wife, and me as donors to UsAgainstAlzheimer’s??We need everyone with "Us” in the fight to end this dreadful disease. Your gift today helps us create a world where no one is lost to Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Wow,?Bill Gates, the second-richest man in the world started to support Alzheimer’s disease. He has now even asked Jeff Bezosto to help and he is world's richest man. This is what I am talking about and we need many more of you to step up and do your part. ? While I am connected to most folks at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill or Melinda has not accepted my Linked request. Still waiting on you two. Thanks for what you do. ???

I would like to thank AARP and all of its staff in joining in the fight for dementia. They have done so much and continue to do so much more. We need more companies and leaders like this.
