A CTO must possess a solid understanding of these areas to drive innovation, manage budgets, and mitigate risks effectively. Engaging with other tech leaders, attending conferences, workshops, and courses can also provide valuable insights and clarity on what success looks like in the CTO role.
5. Lastly, is it worth it if there's a higher chance of failure?
While not every coder will become a CTO, those who are willing to expand their skillset beyond coding, embrace leadership, and continuously learn can certainly make the leap. This desire may be subverted if they serve only as a leader. It isn't the intention of this writing or the evolving community we have been creating to encourage every coder to become a CTO per se. However, it is highly useful to think like a CTO or even a VC (e.g. Jordan Wahbeh , as it allows a coder to pivot into a new role or ignite an entrepreneurial endeavor at the moment the marketplace opens up for the solution to occur readily.
