Could That Be A Drone?
Could That Be a Drone?
Imagine this situation…. you and your wife have just flown from Albuquerque NM to KVBT at Bentonville AR to spend a long weekend with her family. Most of the trip has been in VMC but conditions are deteriorating in NW AR. Tops are 5,000’. Ceilings are 700’ overcast and 4-sm visibility, light and variable winds. ATC assigns the RNAV RWY 36 approach. Approach is uneventful but as you break out, you suddenly see something at 12 o’clock and slightly below the glidepath. At first, you think it’s a bird but then you realize it might be a drone. Is this even possible? What do you do?
The Tuesday, September 12th meeting of The Memphis IMC Club via Zoom will focus on drones. Joel Jones, a FAASTeam Rep, college professor, and owner of a drone business in NW AR will lead the discussion. Topics will include “state” of the drone industry today, what to expect in the next 2-3 years, and the potential impact for fixed and rotary-wing pilots.
In preparation for the meeting, you may want to check these videos from Hearst Television (about Walmart’s drone deliveries in 7-states) and DJI Agriculture (about their 222# farm drone).
Just go to www.memimc.club to ask for the Zoom login info.
And Remember… There is NOT a membership requirement to participate in meetings. Just an interest in becoming a safer, more competent instrument pilot. And there are NO DUES!
Retired (from working for $$$!)
