Could doesn't matter
While at a modern art exhibit at The Art Institute of Chicago a few months ago, I noticed a number of visitors looking at a particular work of art and remarking to the company next to them: “I totally could’ve done that.”?
And all I could think to myself in those moments were, “yeah, but you didn’t.”
These visitors in question were probably just thinking about how primitive and seemingly doable the art looked — a mere arrangement of geometric shapes filled with colors, surely they could’ve done that.?
The vital piece they were altogether missing — and indeed, what clearly separates them from the artist — is the courage to actually get up, create something, and share it with the world.?
The relevance of what we could do is slim to none.?
What matters, what we’ll look ultimately look back on, is not what we could do or thought to do but what we found the courage to do.
What can you do to transition from merely thinking about to doing today??
