“This could be bigger than Snowden!”

“Bigger than Snowden: Massive Leak sends shockwaves through the intel community.” April 9, 2023. The greatest problem is that prevention strategies are to keep hacker out but do very little to prevent the “insider” cyber attacker.

?

Insider cyber-attacks are becoming an increasingly prevalent threat to organizations of all sizes. These attacks can cause immense damage, both financially and reputationally, and can be difficult to detect and prevent. Traditional cybersecurity measures are simply not enough to prevent insider cyber-attacks. But there is one solution that is gaining attention in the cybersecurity world: the Critical Aggression Prevention System (CAPS).

?

Developed by the Center for Aggression Management, Inc., CAPS is a comprehensive approach to preventing aggressive behavior with scientific reliability while not violating Privacy Regulations. Originally developed to prevent assaultive and violent behavior, it has since been adapted to prevent other forms of aggressive behavior, including sexual harassment, abuse, bullying, and discrimination. And now, it's being used to prevent insider cyber-attacks.

?

CAPS is designed to identify and prevent aggressive behavior before it escalates to violence or cyber-attacks. The system uses sequential successive precursors to identify early warning signs of aggressive behavior, including distrustful behavior. When someone transitions from being trustworthy to not being trustworthy, they typically exhibit “distrustful” behavior. Individuals trained in CAPS can identify, engage, diffuse, and/or mitigate this behavior, preventing it from escalating into a cyber-attack.

?

But how does CAPS address the challenges of preventing insider cyber-attacks? CAPS tackles the four main challenges that traditional cybersecurity measures struggle with when it comes to insider cyber-attacks: authorized access, human behavior, lack of visibility, and intent to do harm.

?

Firstly, insiders have legitimate access to the organization's systems and data. Traditional cybersecurity measures cannot differentiate between their legitimate activities and malicious activities. However, CAPS focuses on identifying behavioral precursors to malicious behavior that can indicate an individual is becoming a threat, even if they have legitimate access.

?

Secondly, insider cyber-attacks often involve social engineering tactics to exploit human weaknesses. Cybersecurity measures cannot prevent these types of attacks because they rely on human decision-making. But CAPS can help identify individuals who because they are vulnerable to these tactics become aggressive thus beginning to disconnect from those around them, which can be identified and diffused or mitigated by CAPS trained individuals.

?

Thirdly, insiders are already inside the network, which means they can access systems and data that may be outside the scope of traditional cybersecurity measures. CAPS provides an additional layer of protection by identifying and addressing early warning signs (precursors) of aggressive behavior, which can indicate an insider is becoming a threat.

?

Finally, insiders who plan to commit cybercrimes may take steps to evade detection. CAPS can help identify these individuals by identifying early warning signs (precursors) of distrustful behavior, even if they are taking steps to evade detection.

?

While CAPS is not a cybersecurity one-size-fits-all solution, it is a promising approach to preventing “insider” cyber-attacks. A comprehensive approach to cybersecurity that inexpensively combines technology and training in the best way to prevent “insider” cyber-attacks. As insider cyber-attacks become more prevalent, organizations need to consider all available options to protect themselves and their data.

Matthew, I’m not sure I understand your question? My article above is about identifying someone who was trust-worthy and transitioned to treachery! It doesn’t have anything to do with who your carrier is.

How would I know that I was being targeted or monitored? Bc I suspect that I have or may have been hacked, used my wifi to infiltrate my Internet access. Or lack there of. We have had Breezeline as our only (monopoly) internet access provider available for high speed cable internet and/or wifi. And the only way that my Verizon cell phone works is through WiFi calling which I know is easily hackable. I know that I'm not crazy, but whoever they are, are trying to make me out to be.
