The Costs of Accidental Injuries Can Be More Than You Think

Imagine you are cooking, cleaning, driving, playing a sport, or even just walking down some ice capped steps. Then imagine that life happens. That skillet flips over and burns your arm. A careless driver hits you leaving you with a concussion. You slip and fall down a flight of stairs and break a leg.

I promise, I am not trying to bring your vibe down. This is an exercise in conceptualizing realistic events that can, and often do, happen to anyone. Usually, the emergency room is that first stop, whether you are driven by a loved one or the ambulance (which incurs a few thousand in additional cost).

You’ll get to the ER and may need an X-Ray or an MRI, to assess the damage to your body. In many cases there will be a need to draw blood or do a urine sample. Then again, you might have to get stitches, a manipulation of a joint or even emergency surgery.

In the US, according to data compiled by the Census Bureau, though the Affordable Care Act brought the number of medically uninsured down to 8% of the population, there are still a lot of people without coverage and even more who are under insured.??

That leaves people, even those insured, with hefty medical bills after a visit to the ER. But don’t let that ER visit turn into a few nights or a stay in the intensive care unit. The costs may double or triple.?

If you are an hourly employee, for every hour you are in a hospital bed, that’s hours of lost wages. So now you’re stuck with medical expenses and housing, utility, car, and even childcare costs.?

So what are you to do?

I think you should inbox and let me know when you are free this week to talk. For less than the cost of dinner for two at Chillis, you can secure your family with some supplemental insurance in the event that an accidental injury occurs.

It’s simple. If you are hurt in an accident and have to make a visit to the emergency room, we’ll cut you a check for up to $250. If that ER visit turns into an overnight stay, for every night you are there, expect a check for around $500 a day. If the accident is serious and you are sent to the ICU, you’ll receive another $500 a day for up to 14 days.?

It’s the perfect protection for families with children, high impact careers, the physically active, or elderly people who are prone to falling.?

But wait there’s more.?

Sometimes, an accident is fatal and devastating to a family not only emotionally, but financially, as well. This supplemental coverage will provide enough accidental death insurance to cover your final expenses and to leave a little bit of a cushion for your family to take care of all of the other costs associated with your death, including those outside of the funeral. Depending on the kind of accidental death, your family could receive up to $250,000!!

Look at it like this, you could procrastinate on it, putting it off until later. But life happens when it happens, not according to your plans. The last thing you want is for one serious accident to wipe you out financially. Remember, the average American family is just one paycheck away from bankruptcy. Sometimes, a little risk mitigation is all that’s needed, and that doesn’t have to be an expensive undertaking.?
