Cost of saving our burning humanity?
Did you know that, if we switch 100% to renewables, we can have a total saving of $12 Trillion by 2050?
This number was released by a groundbreaking new study of Oxford University.
Just to give you a bit of perspective, energy generation accounts for 73.2% of our current emissions. In fact if we would switch entirely to renewables this would lover our carbon footprint from 36 Billion Tonnes per year to 10 Billion Tonnes per year. Such a drop would immediately help us slow down and have a positive impact on Climate Change and and would give us time to adopt all the new tech and further reduce the rest of the carbon.
I believe and know for a fact that climate tech is much cheaper in the long run than usage of the fossil fuels. However, our humanity is simply greedy and that is why fossil fuels have been used and are still used worldwide.
Finally, some are getting woken up by all the disasters that are happening in the world. Starting from wildfires and heatwaves and finishing with geopolitical stupidity.
In the past decade the individual cost of a solar panel has fallen by 82%. This is all because economy of scale, high demand and refined manufacturing processes.

Most solar and wind turbines are not only cheaper but also way more efficient. In early 2012 solar panel efficiency was at 17% and now it is at 25% which makes the price per KW of output much lower.
Very often I get asked, why don't countries and governments switch to renewables much faster? Well... For a country to switch fully to renewables, would take far more than just solar panels and wind turbines. Entire energy grids would need to be rebuilt, and grid-level batteries would need to be introduced in order to accommodate everything correctly. This is because solar farms and wind farms are location specific and not on-demand energy sources so energy has to be transported to our households which makes the pressure super high for our old grids to handle. This is also partially why we created WeDoSolar. We need to make sure that energy is produces locally as much as possible so that there is no transportation of energy but rather locally produced and used in the same household which lowers the pressure of our grid.
Sadly enough there are still massive amounts of subsidies that governments pay to fossil fuel companies. Country’s economy depends on them having access to oil (temporarily, anyway), governments subsidise oil and fossil fuels to ensure that they have access to enough money to support their economy. This is why the?fossil fuel industry gets a massive $5.9 trillion in subsidies each year, while renewables?only get about $160 billion. SAD...
For a long time, many people have said that we can’t 100% rely on renewables because they aren’t on-demand energy sources. We would have vulnerable energy grid that would struggle to meet power demands in times of low energy availability or a crisis (like a storm). However, another?recent study?has used complex modelling to demonstrate that 100% renewables are a safe and sturdy way of powering an energy grid. With an energy mix of 69% solar, 18% wind, and the rest biofuels, geothermal, and hydroelectric, an energy grid can be reliable and dependable without risking falling short of demand.
Overall roundup is that renewables are not more expensive than fossil fuels and are much much cheaper for us to use. Our grid can totally stay reliable when powered with renewables and we could cut at least a third of our carbon emissions.
We can stop the self-made climate disaster by simply switching to renewables and if the government are not doing their job than we as individuals should start making steps towards the switch. Let's not forget that we are not only saving our humanity and future of our kids but also tons of money.

2 年Thanks for sharing! Obviously, everyone that is working in renewables knows this (anecdotally). Still there are so many ney-sayers convinced that solar and wind are too expensive. The power of (balcony) solar is here to stay, so keep up the good messaging and work, Karolina Attspodina ????!
