The Cost of Casual
"Let's have a no strings attached conversation"
"Doesn't need to be some official interview"
"We'll keep it casual"
Those are things I've said in every possible variation to potential recruits over the years. It's what I was taught and I liked the idea of making it seem easy.
Here's my stance in 2024:
It's your Career.
Your partnerships, your borrower's homes, your ability to put clothes on your children and food on the table is all on the line.
What exactly is casual about that?
Conversations do not need to be overly exhausting and stressful, but I'm officially retiring language that would indicate that discussing and strategizing about your future should be taken lightly.
If you ask for my support in finding your next lender, before we engage with a single company, I'd like to be very clear on your goals and challenges.
I'm also going to be interested in what would be most exciting about a move and what might scare the sh*t out of you.
With this information in mind, the likelihood of wasting your time goes way down, and the likelihood landing the right opportunity with the right company goes way up.
Let's do this the right way.
