The cost of being hacked?
A recent customer of ours had a situation with an internal member of staff who had been cited for bragging down the local pub that he’d put some interesting back doors into the network ready to ‘ransom’ the business! What followed was a deep dive into how secure they were. Public information revealed their balance sheet stood in the black to the tune of about £120m. The back doors, having taken a look with a number of different tools available, turned out to be many.
What is most interesting though, is that they hadn’t already been hacked. Frankly, with the rhetoric in the marketplace as it is these days, they should have been, many times over. But they weren’t.
So, are those naughty hackers the subject of hype? Well, the answer might well be yes… until you’re hacked. And there it is – the insurance type sales pitch that funds an entire industry.?
How do you traverse the delta between knowing you’re vulnerable and taking action? The simplest route would be to mentally calculate the cost of being hacked.

Our answer to this question, specifically in the absence of panic, is to look into some of the new types of products which are maturing in the marketplace which do a fine job of providing considerable and cost-effective protection. And even if you’re not ready for this new wave of service?- why not find out what’s out there?
