“I never thought I’d work for NASA. As a kid, I thought it was just astronauts, but NASA is so much more than that.?

“I do cost estimating – I use my mechanical engineering background to build up estimates and cost out labor, hardware, electronics, things like that for various projects costing anywhere from $100,000 to $205 million.?

“I think the coolest part [of my job] is that I get to talk and interact with people of all different backgrounds. Like, one minute I'll be talking to a senior chief engineer and the next I'm talking to an early career scientist. Getting to interact with different people and getting to see how they see things and how passionate they are about their science, instrument or technology, I think is what's so rewarding for me.

“I also like to volunteer at events through the NASA Langley Speakers Bureau. I like to be out there and have people see my face. I have very colorful hair, I have a nose ring, I have tattoos, I’m Latina. I want people to see me and realize ‘she looks like me,’ or ‘she speaks Spanish like me,’ and I want them to think ‘she works at NASA and I can too.’”?
