The World Axis
You may have noticed that the charts I put up every day all have 0 Aries on the Ascendant, and 0 Cancer, Libra and Capricorn on the other three angles. Those four angles are extremely important to our existence here on the planet. They are called the World Axis, because the degrees of the zodiac that correspond to those angles also coincide with the seasons. 0 Aries (and 29 Pisces, for example) represents the beginning of spring (and the last day of winter). The same is true for each of the other angles. Without the seasons, life on Earth would not be physically relevant.
These four angles are also known as the Cross of Matter. The line that connects the bottom of the chart (the nadir) with the top (the midheaven) is called the axis of consciousness. Emotion (energy in motion) is generated at the core of our being, and it is meant to flow freely up the axis of consciousness. When that emotion is allowed to flow, it eventually reaches the other axis, the line that connects the ascendant with the descendant, known as the axis of relationship. Without this axis, which represents the experience of me and you, we would not have any physical existence here at all. This Cross manifests the experience of the material world.
