Cosmetic regs and the EU
I communicated with, met and worked with the EU on a number of occasions regarding regulations for cosmetic products to be sold in the European Union. Although scientific evidence and clinical trials were presented to the board in charge of medical approvals, it was very obvious to me that the authorities in Brussels were not particularly interested in scientific or medical data, but rather the political opinions and not what might be best for the consumer. Once they had a regulation or rule in place, no amount of scientific evidence or clinical trials made any difference. Regulations were regulations. Rules were rules. I think this type of attitude from Brussels is really the main reason Great Britain exited the European Union. When government edicts replace common sense and even science something must be done. Sound familiar?
