CORRUPT FEATURES OF PNG POLITICS
In addressing corrupt features of politics in Papua New Guinea, Ms. Dulciana, daughter of late GC Sir Michael Somare, said. “Our peoples’ impoverished status will continue to be manipulated by the power hungry & money-driven intending candidates at the polls every 5 years, if we don’t stop to break the cycle. We can break the cycle with a commitment to change starting with costed and modelled District Development or Provincial Development plans, which can be exposed and sold to our people without inducing them first. I’m not afraid to stand on this standard. If elected, I will lobby as an MP to end this corrupt feature of Papua New Guinea politics. I don’t practice it now in my 2nd election campaign and my support grows exponentially daily.”
I guess we still missing the mark. Start with the basic. Review legislations and have a stringent process to qualify as a candidate for the National General Election. We will be electing people into public office, some will be holding ministerial offices, some chair parliamentary committees. Some become ministers of very important ministerial portfolios. How much more can we wait and just allow the current electoral process accepting people with questionable characters into parliament or continue to be elected into parliament. Start with the basic. If the law is weak, can it be reviewed. Our Election process should help us to vote in policy makers. We seemed to have a lot of Project Managers now and not enough Policy Makers.

2 年Thanks for sharing this topic. I personally think that not much has being done even though many political parties has promised to do it. Maybe because it may find most of their party members implicated. What I believe is for a party to screen thoughly it's candidates before elections and when they get into power, speak out and fight hard in parliament MPs will support them but the people will. Righteousness will always prevail
