The green light in the middle is an A-OK from the PowerGen providing load following cathodic protection for pipeline integrity.

Corrosion Costs the World $2.5 Trillion Annually

The upcoming Corrosion 2021 event, organized by NACE for April 18th in Salt Lake city, Utah will highlight many of the mitigation measures available to curb this waste of resources.

Pipeline corrosion is typically kept in check with the one-two punch of coatings + cathodic protection. OilPro proved throughout a cold Canadian winter that PowerGens provide reliable, cost effective cathodic protection. These North East British Columbia installations were originally powered by always-on internal combustion engine gensets. These remote, helicopter access systems consumed too many resources in terms of fuel, filters, frequent maintenance and maintenance visits. Our client easily justified replacing these engines with two PowerGens (a 1200 and a 5650 Watt model) to not only provide vertical cathodic bed power, but also booster power for local cellular service. Case Study.

Typical Impressed Current Cathodic Protection system implementation. Note Propane can also be used.

The PowerGens are installed and commissioned adjacent to each pipeline cathodic bed and electrically coupled to the IRT ICCP rectifiers with a standard cable. The company was able to retire the oversized Diesel gensets. Minimal fuel costs, using locally available Propane, improved economics when compared to multiple TEG, fuel cell or solar/battery systems, made PowerGen stand out. Known for robustness against theft/vandalism, durability, efficiency were also factors, and the PowerGen's waste heat recovery ability (used to ensure reliable Propane delivery in low temperatures) made the choice easy.

Many of Canada's energy installations are installed well in advance of energy infrastructure, but our customers realize that there often isn't a justification for making a long term commitment with a utility when they can own their own critically reliable power generation equipment, in effect giving them the ability to place a power pole in the middle of nowhere without having to get tied to a multi-decade power contract. Our ability to use anything from untreated 2-phase scrubbed wellhead gas or Propane makes it even easier. We do all this while achieving 100 x lower than EPA CO & NOx limits, while maintaining a -40C to +40C operating range!)

PowerGen has two electric legs available, one can be used for a Cathodic Protection (CP) rectifier and the other can run a converter for SCADA loads. This specific application has two sites 1 mile apart. With two output legs available on every PowerGen, this PowerGen 5650 model is configured to put out rectifier power as well as power for a cellular booster to aid SCADA and SmartView?. Available GHT (Glycol Heat Trace) system captures waste heat to ensure reliable Propane vaporization.

Considering us for your ICCP power either as a standalone system or as a solar hybrid system to supplement photovoltaic power with a smaller PV panel footprint? PowerGen's intelligent control system allows the engine to only run when required.

Are you ready to drastically reduce your battery bank size (load-following capability means no deep cycling needed when float charging). Please have your Voltage range, current/ground bed resistance & SCADA power requirements ready. Your company will appreciate the low maintenance, low fuel consumption and load-following capability so it can get on with improving the bottom line while improving system integrity with minimal manpower and energy costs.
