Corrosion of the aluminum hull.

It is important to remember about anode protection on the aluminum hull of the ship. The pictures show the effect of the lack of anodic protection after sandblasting the hull. The end result is that the entire plating of the underwater part of the hull must be replaced.

I recently identified similar pitting (4mm pits in 8mm plate) on a London widebeam. I recommended re-plating / doublers and paint & anodes. These recommendations were ignored in favour of filling the holes with epoxy and then re-painting.
