Corporate South Africa can – and should – make a far greater contribution to the country’s ethical status

Claiming that the present state of ethics falls exclusively on government’s shoulders is neither a sound excuse nor plausible reason. Instead there is an ethical obligation on every single corporate in South Africa to make a contribution to uplifting our country’s ethical status.

5 年I knew we were heading the wrong direction the day (somewhere in the mid 1990's) when some Universities dropped "Administrative Law" as a subject.? Ethics should start at student level in order to have these principles embedded in society, private institutions, public sector etc.? Weather you think it is a "eurocentric"? subject or not - it is essential as a "ethnocentric" subject that is crucial in the Afrocentric context to ensure progress and growth.? Here Malaysia is a perfect example.? Go and have a look at their turnaround strategy.? These things are possible - even for Africa.? But it must come from the inside and there must be a will..... It is wrong to say politicians are unethical (or rather not ethical - there is a difference).? Particular in a Afrocentric context.? However, some people are not ethical and some of those people are politicians.? I hope you get my drift....? ? ? ??
If you see someone falling behind, walk beside them.
5 年Politicians are inherently unethical, it is business and organised society’s, responsibility to hold the world ethically accountable by inculcating an individualist ethical standard. Most Universities have little control over ethical standard of staff, yet each one holds themselves to the high standard, why, because of the pride to be ethical.

5 年The ethical obligation falls on every South African's shoulders. From the cleaner to the CEO to the Board and every person they deal with. To simply do what is right is not rocket science. It's a mere responsibility few people are willing to take.

5 年A company's response to the Protection of Personal Information Act is the simplest barometer of ethics. POPIA is about respecting an individual's constitutional right to privacy. Which is building block of our democracy. What a company does about respecting this international recognised basic human right speaks volumes about the ethics of any organisation since its not currently law. For now, its simply a question of ethics or, more accurately, the lack thereof!
