Corporate Partner Spotlight: Nuance Communications

Corporate Partner Spotlight: Nuance Communications

This month, we’re spotlighting our partnership with Nuance Communications (Nuance). Check out the Q&A with Nuance below to learn more about how the company has supported RMHC since 2019!

1.    Why does Nuance Communications support RMHC?

It’s important to Nuance to identify non-profit organizations that directly align to causes that are important to us and our employees, including keeping families front and center when it comes to medical care. RMHC serves a critical mission for families with children in the hospital, and we are so proud to support this work.

Giving back to the communities where we live and work is extremely important to who we are and what we believe in as ‘Team Nuance’. Not only are we are focused on building technology that transforms the way we work, connect and interact with each other, but we are driven by our purpose and principles, including one of our core principles, Make What Matters. We focus our collective efforts on building technology that takes obstacles out of the way to help people focus on what matters most – which certainly aligns with the great work of RMHC.

2.    Can you tell us about the impact Nuance and its employees has had on RMHC?

In addition to financial support, Nuance employees use their paid volunteer time (VTO) to support both local and national RMHC programs in a variety of ways. Nuance employees have participated in a number of volunteer events for RMHC over the years, including Words of Encouragement campaigns, fulfilling local Chapter wish lists, and even selecting RMHC for our 2-for-1 donation match during our ‘Nuance Cares-a-Thon’ campaign.

Most recently, during Volunteer Month in April 2023, Nuance offered employees the opportunity to record children’s stories and submit recipes for RMHC programs and families around the world. One Nuance employee even submitted a Cajun Chicken Pasta and Baked Ziti recipe that she enjoyed while staying at a Ronald McDonald House program while her infant son was receiving treatment at a local hospital. Our employees love opportunities like this to support the amazing work of RMHC all across the globe – both through financial contributions and their time.

3.    We heard you had an employee who wanted to share a personal story. Can you share more about her family’s experience with RMHC?

Yes! Jennifer Lewellen, a Diagnostic Customer Success Executive within our Healthcare Division, said:

“We stayed at the Ronald McDonald House near The University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. We live over 700 miles away and my son needed treatment for Distal Arthrogryposis that required us to be there for 3 weeks. I was unable to get time off to take him, so having this available gave me peace of mind knowing my husband would have a home like setting to stay with our son. They got to interact with others who were also visiting the hospital, including a family with a little girl the same age going through the same treatment. Having a child going through treatment is scary, especially when it’s done far away from your home. RMHC takes care of the basic worries - where will you stay, how will you provide decent healthy meals for your child, how will you get to appointments? With those worries covered, you can turn your focus to your child and their treatment. We are so very thankful to have had the opportunity for our family to stay there.”
