Pre-Summit Trip to Dallas

Florizelle Liser, President & CEO of Corporate Council on Africa, led a planning team to Dallas, Texas to meet with the business community, city government, and visit the venues for the 2024 U.S.-Africa Business Summit. Facilitated by CCA Chairman John Olajide and his Dallas-based Axxess team, Ms. Florie Liser undertook the visit in order to finalize various logistical aspects for the Summit, and welcome the engagement of the Dallas business community and city government.?Given an enthusiastic welcome by the Board of Directors of the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Liser briefed preparations for the 2024 U.S.-Africa Business Summit to be held May 6-9 in Dallas.

Nigeria Trade &?Investment Mission

On February 21, 2024, the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) delegation?and the Nigerian Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment held a strategic meeting aimed to foster bilateral cooperation, explore investment opportunities, and address potential challenges to enhance economic relations between the United States and Nigeria. CCA President, Florizelle Liser, acknowledged the already established relationship between the Council and the Minister and noted the significance of the timing for the Nigerian Trade and Investment Mission, as she remarked that CCA is eager to be part of the solution as Nigeria navigates the current macroeconomic headwinds.

Regulatory Convergence for Healthcare products in Southern Africa

On March 12-13, 2024 the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) ) hosted the second of five meetings organized by Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), on Regulatory Convergence for Healthcare Products in Africa. The workshop focused on Southern Africa and was held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The first day covered pharmaceuticals, and the second day focused on medical devices. The meeting convened key stakeholders including U.S. and African pharmaceutical and medical device companies, as well as decision makers from six African regulatory authorities, the U.S. FDA , the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), The U.S. Embassy in South Africa and South Africa’s National Department of Health.

Briefing on AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade?

On April 11, CCA and the US Chamber hosted a briefing on the Protocol on Digital Trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat . Secretary General Wamkele Mene of the AfCFTA Secretariat walked companies through the 50 articles of the Protocol, which had received final approval just days before. SG Mene prefaced his remarks by underscoring the landmark nature of this achievement, given that the World Trade Organization has been negotiating various approaches to foster digital trade for most of the last two decades, so far without success. SG Mene explained the importance of this protocol for the broader AU project of promoting industrialization and job growth, and the integral relationship that agreement on digital trade has with fostering trade and investment under the AfCFTA.

2024 U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Dallas

On May 10, 2023 Corporate Council on Africa President and CEO, Florie Liser and Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana to the United States Onkokame Kitso Mokaila coled a briefing at the CCA Offices for members of the African diplomatic corps in Washington, DC whose governments had been invited at the Head of State / Head of Government level to attend the 2023 U.S.-Africa? Business Summit. The attendees applauded the theme of the Summit - “Enhancing Africa’s Value in Global Value Chains” - with several noting their respective governments were focused on this very topic.

Afreximbank Annual General Meetings

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) hosted its 31st Annual Meeting (AAM) under the theme: “Owning Our Destiny: Economic Prosperity on the Platform of Global Africa,” from June 12-14, in Nassau, the Bahamas. At this year’s edition, the first in the Caribbeans, the 3rd AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2024) was incorporated in the official program. During the three days, over $3 billion of deals were signed between Afreximbank and its African and Caribbean partners.

AGOA Private Sector Forum

The AGOA Private Sector Forum convened on July 24, 2024 in Washington with more than 800 delegates participating in person and online. The Forum welcomed the high-level participation from both the U.S. Government and the African Union , with in person welcoming remarks from Secretary of State Blinken, USTR Amb. Tai, AU Commissioner Muchanga, South African Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Tau and Deputy Secretary of Commerce Graves. Private sector representatives welcomed the strong support the U.S. Government officials conveyed from President Biden and the U.S. administration for the renewal of AGOA.

Roundtable Discussion on Critical Minerals Policy & Engagement with Africa?

On Wednesday, August 21st, Corporate Council on Africa hosted a roundtable discussion on “U.S. Critical Minerals Policy and Engagement with Africa” with critical minerals experts from various research institutions, private sector, and U.S. government representatives. The roundtable discussion featured: Florizelle Liser (CEO & President of CCA), Zainab Usman (Director of Africa Program at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace), Daniel Travis (Director of Economic and Regional Affairs in the State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs), Derek Campbell (CEO of LVC Global Holdings Ltd), Meredith Broadbent? CCA on Official Delegation of President Biden's Trip to Angola & Hosts Lobito Corridor Summit Celebratory Reception

Florie Liser, Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) President and CEO, was honored to represent CCA as a member of the official delegation of President Joseph Biden’s trip to Angola. To fulfil a commitment to travel to Africa made during the December 2022 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, President Biden traveled to Angola December 1-4, 2024.
