Coronavirus/Covid-19 Business Tips: Videoconferencing Platforms to Be More “Social” While Social Distancing

We are all social distancing because of the Coronavirus or Covid-19 epidemic and this is causing us to find other means of communicating with business partners, investors, customers, clients and other people we might otherwise meet with in person.

Networking often involves lunch, getting a drink, dinners locally or traveling to other cities to do the same with people we are working with or would like to work with.

Even before the epidemic, more and more I was being asked to connect with people on video platforms to have virtual “face-to-face meetings.”  While not the same as in-person meetings, these video conferences allow us to see and interact in a way that is very different and more “social” than a typical audio conference call.

These platforms vary in complexity and expense.  Some have basic free versions.  I will not try to review all of these but if you google video platform reviews you can read several reviews on these platforms.  If you have thoughts or good reviews, please share in the comments below.

I have seen a lot of companies including investment firms, car companies, and technology companies are using Zoom.  https://zoom.us/  I have found it easy to download, set up, and use.  Since so many people I am interacting with us, it makes sense for me to use it.

We may find we spend more time using these platforms post Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic will be used much more than before by many more people of all ages and professions.  Since we often work with people in other cities whom we may never meet in person this is not just a reaction to the pandemic and social distancing, but perhaps a way for us to get to know and interact better with people in daily business lives.
