Coronavirus: Golf. The safest sport to avoid infection? What's your view?
Self-isolation against Covid-19 should not mean no golf! I can't think of a safer sport than golf during these uncertain times.
Interestingly we've seen an increase in sales of PlaneSWINGs the past 3 weeks and whilst there's always a seasonal spike as we approach TheMasters, this has exceeded previous years by a sufficient margin to warrant a correlation.
Obviously working on your game at home is a good thing whatever the circumstances and almost essential during the Coronavirus pandemic if you're someone that's in the high risk group. But I want to talk about playing the game at the course.
Golf is played in the open air, there's no physical contact that can't be avoided (hugs, handshakes) and now you can leave the pin in, so you don't even have to touch the flagstick. You can pay for the golf online and your losing bet via PayPal, Zell or any other payment app, so no cash is physically changing hands. Plus there's no requirement to go into the Clubhouse yet you still have the important interaction with family and friends.
Using hand wash and/or sanitizer or washing hands at restrooms on the course after using range balls or any unintentional contact with an object or person is an added precaution you should take, but ultimately I would say, with confidence, that spending almost 5 hours on a golf course will bring you into less contact with infected surfaces, air or people than spending those 5 hours elsewhere.
Wishing everyone happy and safe golfing!

4 年We are playing here in SW Florida. The virus is mostly in latitudes way north of here and heat and sunlight destroy the virus. I has been 85 and sunny here for weeks and nothing else in the forecast. My wife and I play and walk with a push cart so no golf cart contact. Play on!

4 年Getting outside in nature is good for your mental health. I’ve been playing golf still and it’s a chance to relax and enjoy friends safely.
Exercise, fresh air, 3 of my friends, and a chance to do something normal.? Sounds like a good day to me.? Get out and play some golf.?
