The Corona Generation
Is this the birth of a new Generation, the Corona Generation?
Seasons and weather conditions play a role in birthdays. Historically late-summer months are when obstetricians witness an increase in the arrival of newborns. The theory is that as the mercury drops in the late autumn and beginning of the winter, people spend more time indoors. About nine months later, a summer baby is born. This why the higher births rate will be
Following the same logic, starting November - December 2020 we will most probably witness a soar in the birth rate due to this period when people are working from home, which became mandatory in many parts of the world, especially in the western hemisphere. If we take a look at the history, we can quickly identify the baby boomers, born in the 50ties after the end of WWII, in a period where optimism was on the rise. Then we have Generation X, Millennials, Generation Z, Generation Y, so now it's time for the Corona Generation.
Let's just imagine what will mainly characterise the Corona Generation: they will grow up with their parents less likely to be formally married, instead of leaving together as partners, working from home, in a highly digitalised world, where people are connected in other ways than before and where our lives run at high speed. The emergence and maturation of Artificial Intelligence will make things change even faster. So, less attachment to things, probably less direct social contact, digital dependencies, which will replace the social dependencies, skills set that need to be developed in a difficult to predict direction and most probably have to change regularly. Making sense of all this will be the challenge of the new Corona Generation. One thing is sure though - evolution cannot be stopped, and even if we can't possibly prepare for everything coming our way, we can adapt to anything, this is simply encoded in our genes.
