Cornwall
always wanted to live in New England – lobsters, Stephen King, the cold Atlantic Ocean,?
Unfortunately, I was born in Bristol – fortunately Bristol is relatively close to Cornwall, and fortunately (in my opinion) Cornwall is as close to the Atlantic USA as you can get in the British Isles.?
Great crashing blue sea waves, pasties brimming with swede, clotted cream, scones, sandcastles, Cornish Maize Mazes, sea mists, moors and long sandy beaches – what an incredible place to live, work and do business. Albeit I only do business and holiday there, or vacation to use the American vernacular, but having done so for the last 3 decades can I view myself as an adoptive Kernownian???
For those who suffer from trouble sleeping and so made the effort to read my previous articles you will have noticed I have written an ode aka love letter to a number of geographical locations that I have developed my recruitment career in – namely Devon and Gloucestershire. These are of course accurate sentiments but over a lifetime a person can have several loves and passions and Cornwall will always hold its place.?
The geography of a place always influences the nuances of the people, the businesses and services that are there. Think of Cornwall and you think pasties and fish and chips? But did you know there is so much more? Particularly when it comes to innovation and business? From the first commercial Spaceport looking to grow commercial space flight to the most progressive social housing providers in the UK, a Procurement Conglomerate for the public sector that was truly pushing the progress of cost saving within the public sector, Cornwall has been innovative beyond pasties and cream teas.??

In addition to many holidays spent camping, surfing, hiking in Cornwall - I have forged (and to my pleasure) developed a great deal of business, often from in person meetings in the land of Kernow. The very nature of the landscape often shapes the way in which support, social and business services are delivered.?
I have found that the demeanour, the approach to recruitment, the retention of staff and liaison with me as a recruiter significant different in Cornwall than other places. Whether it’s the sparseness of population and density of available candidates to smaller pockets of business that rely on local clientele – everybody is very much affable and amenable. There is no negativity in the delivery of recruitment and engagement with me as consultant. Everything is focused on achieving the right result and goal, rather than issues regarding the pointed competition between agencies and rivalry over candidates.?
In all, if you are a business or public sector service looking to recruit a qualified Solicitor, Housing Officer, Support Worker, Paralegal, Finance Director, Purchase Ledger Clerk or other qualified, professional Locum, there is no better location to do so, and being more than biased I would highly recommend using Venn Group to facilitate that process!?
