THE CORNER POD: SEARCH AND SEIZURE TRAINING BULLETIN: TOPIC: EMERGENCY DOCTRINE

Have you ever responded to a welfare check call in which you are asked to go to a residence to check on the homeowner’s welfare because the homeowner failed to show up to work and the employer is concerned that something is wrong? You respond to the homeowner’s house, knock on the door, and get no response. You try to look through a window next to the front door but you cannot see inside. While standing on the porch, you smell a pretty strong and pungent odor (it smells like something is dead) coming through a slightly open bathroom window near the front door. What did you do? What can you legally do??????
I field several questions concerning welfare checks and making a warrantless entry into a home based on a welfare check. As such, I felt compelled to draft this training bulletin to address the concerns. if you want to learn more about this topic go to The Corner Pod website:

Please let me know your thoughts on the bulletin, if you have any questions about this topic, or if you have other search and seizure questions you want me to address.
